Could You Turn Them Away?

This past weekend during the chat we have on Twitter which is #Preppertalk; an interesting question was asked. The question was.. “What will you do when strangers come to your door looking for food?”. Of course this is during or after a SHTF event. My immediate thought was to turn them away, as this is a result of what we have read about in the many places. We will get into this later. The conversation went very well and the information many of the folks provided was very helpful. While there are no right or wrong answers, it made me...

WTF On BF 2011

Have people lost their minds? Seriously?! As a result of Black Friday this year; people were pepper sprayed, shot, and stabbed. Not to forget getting ripped off in the parking lot after folks paid for their items in the store. You can read about all the festivities from the Washington Post. Not only do I find this discouraging, but disheartening as well. I know times are tough and the economy sucks. You would think that people would be civil and courteous, but that is in a perfect world. It is sad, but some natural disasters (Hurricane Katrina)...

The Unexpected

Earlier this week there was a news report that the computer systems at an Illinois water plant were hacked. You can read about it here. Apparently this caused some damage to the plant, but it was not disclosed on how extensive the damage was. The rumor has it that the hacker or hackers were out of Russia. But here is where it gets better. Now today, the FBI and DHS have said they found no evidence of a “cyber intrusion”. You can read this here. Do I believe it? No!! What is the moral of this story? Since computer systems are vital for...

Beginner Preparedness

I wanted to repost this from the old website. This may be helpful to some new visitors to the site. When I first started researching “survival and prepping” I was blown away by the amount of information out there on the web. However, I remember back to when I first started to prep I admit I was overwhelmed by it all. The first thing you read is you need a Bug Out Bag (B.O.B.)!! So I went and bought bags and filled them with gear, supplies, food, etc. Then I thought, “where the hell am I buggin out to?”. Which then lead to...

Who Can You Count On?

If you have been prepping for some time, you have a plan in place. Included in your plan should be a place to bug out to incase you need to, or it includes long term food survival.  But have you considered who you can really count on? Of course your family should be there during any difficult time, but who else do you have on your side during a SHTF scenario? Are your neighbors reliable? Do you have friends that you could depend on? Sometimes it takes a stressful situation to see both the good and bad in people. If you do plan on coordinating with...

Family Preparedness Part II: Preparedness And Children

This is part two of our series on “It Is All In The Family Preparedness”. If you ask any parent, they will tell you that they will do anything for their child. This is universal and never changes. The children are one facet of family preparedness that should be discussed more often. Children are our future right? So let’s keep it that way. Let me begin by saying that I do not claim to be a mental health expert or professional, but we can usually come to conclusions from our own personal experiences. Of course each person has a...

It Is All In The Family Preparedness

Got your attention with the title, huh? We would like to do a series on family preparedness. There are so many different aspects on this topic so it would not make sense to cram it all into one article. You would get bored. We will cover some key topics and some “food for thought” as well. This will be from a lay person perspective and not try to use a bunch of expertise jargon as there is a place and time for that, but not here. In this series, we will cover three main topics: I. Family preparedness II. Preparedness and children III....
