The Solar Max Has Begun: 28 Flares Erupt from Sun in One Week

Every 11 years the sun goes through a period referred to by astronomers and scientists as the Solar Max, or Solar Maximum, when the sun experiences its peak activity with the potential to consistently release powerful solar flares and coronal mass ejections towards earth. After a relatively quiet 2011 and 2012, it looks as if the sun is finally waking back up.

Making Faraday Cages

The information to follow on building “Faraday cages” is timely indeed. A single atmospheric nuclear detonation releases enough electromagnetic pulse (EMP) to equal 100,000 volts per meter (V/m). A single detonation 200 to 400 miles over the center of the continental United States would fry every unprotected computer chip from coast to coast, and from the middle of Canada to the middle of Mexico. And we are now into Solar Cycle 23, with solar flares common and expected to continue until the first of next year. CME’s are capable...

North Korea Developing Electro-Magnetic Pulse Weapons

South Korea’s spy agency said on Monday that North Korea was using Russian technology to develop electro-magnetic pulse weapons aimed at paralyzing military electronic equipment south of the border.

“EMP 101” A BASIC PRIMER & SUGGESTIONS FOR PREPAREDNESS

In preparation for tonight’s show American Blackout on NatGeo, we thought we would share this information from a well known source on the effects of an EMP blast. While it is not clear as to why the power goes out in American Blackout, we figure this may be one cause of what happens on the show. So we hope you are able to tune in tonight and see NatGeo’s perspective on an event like this.

Solar Activity Surges: Multiple X-Class Flares Reported: NOAA Says More To Come: “Powerful”

Leading up to 2013 many solar researches forecast that activity on the sun would be heating up as it transitioned into its solar maximum cycle, something that occurs about every 11 years.

After an EMP Attack – How To Get Home When it’s 700 Miles Away

I sometimes have to go out of town on business just like millions of other people each year. The distance and locations all vary with the need, but in a lot of cases, I am unable to be as equipped as I would normally be around my home town. In some cases I travel internationally, but that is rare. Sometimes I only travel an hour or two by car so I opt to drive. In this type of situation, I can take my Get Home Bag and usually a firearm (or two) with me. Most often it is several hundred miles away from home and to cities where firearms are not...

U.S. on alert for nuclear blast overhead

WASHINGTON – U.S. officials quietly are expressing concern that North Korea could use its “space launch vehicle” to explode a high-altitude nuclear device over the United States, creating an electromagnetic pulse that would destroy major portions of the U.S. electrical grid system as well as the nation’s critical infrastructures.
